How to Best Use Your Storage Space in your Home

27th May 2019/Design

How to make the most of the space in your home:

Whether you own a smaller home lacking closet space, or you are simply trying to organise the space you have, there are many possibilities to maximise and add storage to all rooms in the house. You might have meticulously planned out your rooms, but somehow, that clutter still manages to creep in. Rather than stack up boxes or use unsightly plastic trays, why not try some of our clever storage ideas to save space, even in the tiniest of houses…

The truth of the matter…

Believe it or not, for most of us, our storage problem is NOT an organisational problem.  It’s not that we don’t have enough closet space, or that we haven’t figured out the right system.  It’s not that we don’t have the right boxes or bins or baskets to put everything in. Our problem is that we simply have too much stuff.

Thus, the first step in becoming more organised and maximising your space is getting rid of the things you don’t need and the things which no longer serve your family.

Bedroom Storage Ideas:

The bedroom is often the room with the most need for maximum storage but the least amount of space for putting stuff away. Items to consider would be a storage bed, this home storage idea is discreet and practical. Moreover, a storage chest is a great way to keep everything tidy and hidden away and is a great use of space.

(Mud Bench)

Entrance/Vestibule Ideas:

When it comes to a vestibule or entrance area, a mud bench with coat hooks and storage for shoes is a great way to keep the house tidy. Additionally, it helps create a welcoming atmosphere for not only your family but for any guests or visitors too.

(Children’s toy chest storage idea)

All  parents out there know the stress of having your children’s toys scattered everywhere and anywhere. Investing in a children’s toy chest for them to keep all their toys in when playtime is over is a great idea. Not only does it keep the clutter to a minimum but children love them.

(Storage idea for under windows)

Making the most of space under windows.  From benches to chest of drawers, the space under a window is often forgotten about and left empty. Instead it can be used as a very handy storage spot.

As demonstrated in the photos above, there are many simplistic and affordable storage ideas that not only free up a lot of floor space around the house but also keep things around the house de- cluttered and looking tidy.

Under Stair Storage Ideas:

(Use of under stair storage)

The use of under stair storage is a great idea to use space that is often left and rendered useless to put away any items that are left lying about the house.

Additionally, putting your television on the wall and having a storage system or cabinet underneath is an effective way to make the most of space in your living room. A TV can take up valuable space in your living room but don’t allow it to. Instead, use it as a focal point to build storage around. Simple shelving and movable TV units, offer flexible solutions. Or, for something tailored to your needs, try fitting a bespoke design.

The use of shelves:

(Use of shelves as a source of storage)

Shelves are a great way of using empty wall space to put any small decorative items that may be lying about the house to good use. Another great idea is to hang up any photos or photo frames on shelves. Not only does this give your home some personal familial touches but allows for optimum space on coffee tables, or chest of drawers for other items where previously you had photo frames lying on.
